Greater things – God is able

Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

It is one of the epic bible stories. A teenage shepherd boy comes to the battlefield. The army has armor, shields and swords. This little youth comes in Wearing animal skins, sporting a sling, a few pebbles and a lot of faith.

1 Samuel 17:32-33 NLT Don’t worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I’ll go fight him!”

“Don’t be ridiculous!” Saul replied. “There’s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You’re only a boy, and he’s been a man of war since his youth.”

1 Samuel 17:45-46 NIV David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the Lord will conquer you.

Why did David have so much courage? Because he knew that God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine!

1 Samuel 17:48-49 As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him. Reaching into his shepherd’s bag and taking out a stone, he hurled it with his sling and hit the Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank in, and Goliath stumbled and fell face down on the ground.

David, the shepherd boy wins. Conquers the giant. Saves the day. He is made a commander in the army and eventually becomes king.

What do you come with when you face the challenges of your life?

We serve a God who is able! What is your need today? God is able to deal with your situation. God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. This truth should change everything about our lives. Get a fresh revelation that, in all situations He is able! When something comes against you, don’t get sad or discouraged, look to the God who is able and run to the battle in faith!
